Permanent “Contact Lens” Inside the Eye. In February, Dr. Jonathan Christenbury of the Christenbury Eye Center will be the first in the Carolinas to introduce the Visian ICL®, a unique implantable collamer intraocular lens that corrects nearsightedness, a condition affecting 1 in 4 people in the U.S.
Millions of Americans with common vision errors like nearsightedness, farsightedness and astigmatism have more choices than ever before for improving their eyesight. Now there is yet another exciting new alternative for people who are very nearsighted.
In February, Dr. Jonathan Christenbury of the Christenbury Eye Center will be the first in the Carolinas to introduce the Visian ICL®, a unique implantable collamer intraocular lens that corrects nearsightedness, a condition affecting 1 in 4 people in the U.S.
Think of the Visian ICL as a contact lens inside the eye, but better, because it is permanent and will never dry out, become dirty, get lost or need to be re-inserted in the eye each morning. This type of intra-ocular lens is a Phakic IOL.
“We are pleased to offer patients one more advanced technology that will make a difference in their eyesight and their quality of life,” says Dr. Christenbury, who is known for his pioneering work in new vision care treatments, including WaveFront Custom IntraLASIK and the ReSTOR procedure that eliminates the need for reading glasses or bifocals.
The Visian ICL is designed to correct moderate to severe nearsightedness and offers people who were not good candidates for laser vision correction the freedom from having to wear glasses and contact lenses. The Visian is also ideal for patients who might be LASIK candidates but prefer a reversible procedure.
